In October of 2021 I was approached by Tessa Byford, producer at Prodigium Pictures, with an offer. She detailed how even before GME exploded onto the stock market, her and director Tobias Deml had hit the ground running with extensive research on the r/WallStreetBets forum. And when one of the largest short squeezes in recorded history had burst onto the scene, they were ready - already mapping out their first interviews. These guys were in on the ground floor, and I couldn’t believe I was being asked to come along for the ride of what was a truly momentous event for our financial system.
As a story editor on the project, I was tasked with helping flesh the narrative, design character arcs, and massage a complex discussion on finance and corruption into a digestible watch. No small feat! After studying hundreds of hours of interview and archival footage, I was able to pull up needed components at the drop of a hat; looking for a quote made by a certain character about a particular topic? I’m your guy, I’ll have it in 5.
