Cool, Awesome and Desirable is a film that was written, shot, and edited in a 48-Hour span. Me and my wonderful collaborators made this film to compete in the 2021 Los Angeles 48 Hour Film Project, which saw over 130 entrants. The film premiered at Regal Cinemas LA Live on August 22nd, 2021.
It was an incredibly challenging, yet rewarding experience to try and make a film from start to finish in a weekend. When producer/actor Tyler Sopland approached me with the offer to direct, I could not have been more humbled. The tough part is the waiting - while we did as much as we could ahead of time to prepare (locked down location options, rented equipment, established base camp, etc.) there’s only so much one can do when they have no idea what their film is going to be about!
Every group’s genre and other stipulations were distributed on Friday, August 6th at 7:30PM to prevent cheating beforehand. From there, it was off to the races. With a wonderful crew to work with and an incredibly motivated cast highlighted by the aforementioned Mr. Tyler Sopland, Isaac Azocar, Sadie Stanley (Kim Possible, The Sleepover), Molly Jackson (Andi Mack, Doctor Sleep) and Talita Maia (Community), I couldn’t have asked for a better group of people to tackle this endeavor with. The set was so full of life and energy, despite the complete and total lack of sleep!
The time constraints certainly led to some challenges, cut ideas, and concessions, but overall; I’m very happy with how the project turned out.
